Insulting Wedding Gift
I know of this nice couple who used to attend a private house church. The couple had set a wedding date for their pastor to marry them. They had a very simple wedding. They were not wealthy people by any means to finance a large wedding. They were married by the local pastor in a very humble indoor setting. Let's just say the pastor didn't even have to step out his front door. The bride to be at the time did wear a very classy long golden, shimmering gown rather than the traditional white wedding dress. The groom wore a suit but that was the most expensive part of the wedding except for the rings. There were very few people in attendance at this wedding but the couple were okay with that as they just wanted a small gathering, anyway. After the marriage ceremony there was a store bought chocolate cake served. The pastor and his wife had purchased the cake for the wedding. Yes, that's right. It was not a traditional fancy decorated wedding cake. As a matter of fact the chocolate cake was slightly dry and stale. Afterwards, there was the distribution of a few small gifts to the couple. It wasn't much but one of the gifts had to have been one the worst wedding gifts ever given. The pastor's wife handed the bride an unwrapped tea towel. The bride politely thanked the pastor's wife but as she looked closer at the piece of cloth given to her, she realized it was not new. The towel was used and had a stain on it. Now, how insulting is that! The stained towel has got to be one of the most insulting wedding presents ever especially coming from a pastor's wife. After the wedding was over the pastor drove the bride and groom to the nearest restaurant of their choice. They were dropped off on the side of a very busy highway and had to walk the rest of the way to the restaurant. The newly wedded couple enjoyed a smorgasbord dinner that evening with no other guests in attendance. The couple had used some of the last of their money to pay for their own dinner. After dinner they went home and watched some videos they has rented later than night. There was no honeymoon as the couple could not afford one nor were they actually gifted any money to do something a little extra special. Well, the good outcome of this wedding is that it did not cost the couple a fortune just to tie the knot. This wedding took place many years ago and the couple are still married today despite enduring the most humble wedding and an awful wedding gift given to them to boot. The crappy gift of the hand me down tea towel itself was utilized as a household item known as a dust cloth. It was several years later that this same pastor and his wife decided to celebrate their wedding anniversary twice in one year in two different cities. This same couple the pastor married had been invited to the pastor and his wife's first anniversary before they moved away. It was noted that the pastor was gifted large amounts of cash in the form of checks and modest gifts. This couple had also gifted the pastor and his wife a brass key holder. It wasn't an overly expensive gift but at least it was brand new and it looked decent.
