Guardian Angels Protect Campers
A frightening campground episode where guardian angels protect campers from a possibly dangerous situation.
The year was the summer of 2019 when my husband and I were facing a juncture in our lives. We were in the middle of relocating and had travelled many miles in the first two days of our journey. We decided to stop at a scenic campground located in the Shuswap area of BC. We pitched a tent on that tiring afternoon. It rained off and on for most part of the later day which made it rather uncomfortable. Nightfall was creeping on us. We decided to try and get some sleep in the tent. The rainfall had made it chilly and damp inside the tent but we tried to deal with the issue as best as we could. However, I could not sleep for some reason. We had our cat with us and he began to act very scared and hissed. We thought that maybe a bear or some other wild animal might be lurking nearby in the bushes. I took extra heed and felt there was something more. A sense of eeriness befell me and I decided we should stay in the car and plus we could keep a little warmer using the car heater. I at least felt safer in the car and the cat was much more calmer in his carrier inside the car. My husband also felt more secure inside the vehicle. Yet, still my intuition was telling me something wasn't right. A couple or three hours had passed us by while we sat in the car. It was pitch black all around us. Suddenly, we saw headlights and the sound of a vehicle coming in from the entrance of the campground in behind us. Our car was parked near the picnic table which was nearby directly in front of the tent. At first we thought nothing of the very late night vehicle other than figuring it was late night coming campers. It was a van that drove in and they pulled up very close to where our tent was placed. We watched as a male stepped out of the passenger's side of the van. He headed directly towards our tent and proceeded to unzip the opening of the tent. There was also a driver and back seat passenger that stepped out of the van as the first male proceeded to look inside the tent. My husband said it was trouble in which I didn't argue. I had already had the keys in the ignition and fired up the car quickly and sped out of the campground swiftly. It was strange that the van occupants did not appear to see us nor our car as we were very close to the incident that was played before our eyes. I came to the conclusion that guardian angels prevented these people from spotting us too soon thus giving us time to leave the area for safer grounds. This threatening and potentially disastrous occurrence caused us to forfeit our tent and blankets but we did not care as our well being was more more important. Even though I had been still exhausted from a lack of sleep this spooky campground incident was enough to alert me and also to be glad that we got away from the campground safely. After this creepy campground experience it was a huge turnoff for me to ever want to camp again especially since this was also the period of time when there was a epidemic of missing vehicles and persons who disappeared on the BC highways in 2019.
