Old Fashioned Cream Puffs Craving
This is some food for thought. If one likes sweet desserts then read on. As a kid growing up in an urban neighborhood, I always enjoyed binging on old fashioned home baked cream puffs. The scrumptious tasty pastries stuffed with whipping cream and topped with semi sweet chocolate left a desire for more than just one. These were not your tiny powdered sugar sprinkled dough balls stuffed with a dab of cream, found in modern day grocery stores in the frozen desserts section. A genuine cream puff is made with carefully prepared chou pastry baked at a low oven temperature. After the pastry is delicately browned and removed from the oven, the middle part of the pastry is removed. This leaves a small cavity inside the pastry that is filled with preferably real whipping cream. The cream puffs were finally completed with a delicious chocolate coating and sprinkled icing sugar. These cream puffs also provided more than just one or two bites like that of the store bought knock off cream puffs. A genuine home made cream puff is light, creamy and textured with a luxurious sweetness to satisfy a sweet tooth. The time has come to soon fulfill this desire for cream puffs by digging the thirty years plus recipe book out of the drawer. Perhaps a little dessert wine would enhance the experience of a taste of heaven.
