Elementary School Gym Klutz

Image
An embarrassing moment in a grade school gym class leads a shy young student to help form a winning team. Elementary school was not a particular favourite time of my life especially from grades four to six. I was not a popular kid in school which contributed more to my shyness and low self esteem at the time. I always felt self conscience what the other kids were thinking of me and whether they liked me or not. There were nice kids but there were also many bullies both boys and girls. Gym class was especially difficult for me because more social interaction took place with other kids including the ones that I did not fair well with. One particular physical education class was in grade six. The teacher decided she would hold the gym class indoors that day in the school's gymnasium. I recall this long bar set up starting from four to sixes inches off the floor. All students were supposed to run and hurdle the bar without knocking it over. That seemed easy enough to me as I evaluated ...

Guardian Angels Protect Campers

Image
A frightening campground episode where guardian angels protect campers from a possibly dangerous situation. The year was the summer of 2019 when my husband and I were facing a juncture in our lives. We were in the middle of relocating and had travelled many miles in the first two days of our journey. We decided to stop at a scenic campground located in the Shuswap area of BC. We pitched a tent on that tiring afternoon. It rained off and on for most part of the later day which made it rather uncomfortable. Nightfall was creeping on us. We decided to try and get some sleep in the tent. The rainfall had made it chilly and damp inside the tent but we tried to deal with the issue as best as we could. However, I could not sleep for some reason. We had our cat with us and he began to act very scared and hissed. We thought that maybe a bear or some other wild animal might be lurking nearby in the bushes. I took extra heed and felt there was something more. A sense of eeriness befell me a...

Insulting Wedding Gift

Image
I know of this nice couple who used to attend a private house church. The couple had set a wedding date for their pastor to marry them. They had a very simple wedding. They were not wealthy people by any means to finance a large wedding. They were married by the local pastor in a very humble indoor setting. Let's just say the pastor didn't even have to step out his front door. The bride to be at the time did wear a very classy long golden, shimmering gown rather than the traditional white wedding dress. The groom wore a suit but that was the most expensive part of the wedding except for the rings. There were very few people in attendance at this wedding but the couple were okay with that as they just wanted a small gathering, anyway. After the marriage ceremony there was a store bought chocolate cake served. The pastor and his wife had purchased the cake for the wedding. Yes, that's right. It was not a traditional fancy decorated wedding cake. As a matter of fact the choc...

Helpless Poor Creatures

Image
I once volunteered at an SPCA in the Okanagan region a long time ago. There was a beautiful husky wolf dog with blue eyes staying at the animal shelter. I remember the dog licked my hand as I petted him through the bars of the cage. Then another day I went back to do more volunteer work and the husky wolf dog was no longer there in the shelter. I was told it was put down because of it being part wolf and that the shelter deemed the dog as a safety threat. I was very sad. I had also wanted to rescue the dog from there but I was not in a position to do so. There was also another time the shelter had ended the lives of some kittens because they said they were wild. This same animal shelter had a nasty habit of putting down many dogs, cats and kittens very frequently. The shelter had a death room for these poor creatures. They even done away with these defenseless creatures when they were open to the public. I remember one little boy asking his mother about what was being done to som...

Lucky Green Armchair

Image
In the early seventies, I once lived in this house that had an upper bedroom that had access to the attic of the house. I used to go upstairs and play in this room all the time. There was a big ugly green upholstered armchair with big saddle arms in the room. I happened to be sitting on this hideous chair one day and put my hand down the back of the chair. I felt something hard and smooth and pulled the items out. It was coins. I found lots of quarters in that big old armchair that day. In those days that was lots of spending money for a seven year old kid. I was ecstatic because I was able to walk to the corner store and buy lots of candy and some toys too. Then there was another day I decided to go upstairs to this room and see if I could find more coins in this lucky green chair. To my amazement, I did manage to dig more coins out of the chair. It almost seemed magical because I thought I had cleaned all the coins from the chair previously. How could more coins just keep ...

Cliquey Greedy City of Kelowna

Image
Kelowna is an overpopulated, expensive, greedy and cliquey city As a former resident of Kelowna BC for twenty years I have observed the major changes that are happening in this fast growing city. It has become an extremely expensive area to rent or own housing. The population is now becoming too dense for the Kelowna area alone. Greedy developers are throwing up cheaply made housing units including tiny little micro suites with minimal space patios barely enough to hold two chairs. These type of units are asking somewhere in the range of approximately 1500 to 1700 hundred a month. The city and developers claim this is affordable house. Well, affordable housing it is not. Kelowna has become a worsened state filled with self privileged, money hungry, wine thirsty, arrogant snobs. It is not a friendly city by any means. There are many McMansion type homes that can be found in Kelowna and yes, there is the vineyards! Don't forget the wine. However, that is just the one side of the sto...

Oh, My Poor Peanut Butter

Image
Encounter of online shopping gone wrong. Here is a laughable but not so funny to me at the time peanut butter jar disaster story. It was a couple or three years ago I ordered some foodstuffs and other household goods online from a well known retailer. One of the items contained in the package was a large jar of brand name peanut butter. Everything seemed okay at first as I proceeded to put all my shopping items away. I put the peanut butter jar in the cupboard and left it at that. It wasn't till the next day I opened the cupboard door and I noticed there was peanut butter leaking all over from the bottom of the jar and onto the cupboard floor. I thought to myself, what the heck! I pulled the jar out of the cupboard and examined it closely and noticed there was a long fine split near the bottom of the jar.  It looked as though someone had taken a long sharp object and literally gutted the jar. I was not pleased. It was obvious that when the peanut butter was shipped somebody had bee...

The Pipe Dream Is Over

Image
For several years I faithfully played the lottery. I was hoping at one point and was sure I would win the huge jackpot so I could buy this large elegant chateau type house that was on the market. I ogled this house so much and even knew how I would furnish and decorate it once I was moved in. Oh, did I want that house so bad! I even went overboard on my budget and bought a lot of Lotto Max lottery tickets hoping I would have the correct numbers. I even calculated the possibility of numbers and combinations for more chances to win. I would fantasize all the time about this beautiful mansion and about how much life would be better owning a large estate and having all the luxuries I do not have now. It was a wonderful dream and the lottery helped me produce those dreams in my head but the let down was it did not get me the ultimate win I needed to buy that house! As time passed on the dream started to fade into a lesser mode of wishful thinking. I knew in my heart that the chances o...
