High School Memories
Back in the early 80s, high school is not something I fondly remember. The school was located in the heart of a small but not so friendly town. I myself hated all most every moment of attending this high school on a regular basis. Some of the teachers were half out of it doing nothing to help but just sitting their at their desk doing nothing but looking dumb. Quite often they did not want to even help the students if they were having a problem. I found it absolutely boring and didn't want to be there. It was more interesting to skip out with friends and hang out in the local coffee shops during the school hours or sometimes partying at a friends house out of rebellion. Sometimes we would just drive around town laughing and joking about the pitfalls of life not even giving regard to the future.
The kids in this high school were just as equally cruel. One friend I had known had almost faced one of the cruelest jokes planned for Halloween. Some of the boys in the school had planned on having a Halloween party. Sure, nothing out of the ordinary here but there was also a contest planned of which guy could bring the ugliest girl in the school to the party. The outcome would be a hundred dollar reward to the one that brought the homeliest girl to the party. This friend of mine was one of the chosen ones. I was totally disgusted when I heard this. Thank God this party contest never did take place.
I myself had run into problems with other female students who were jealous. I happened to date the best looking guy in the high school. Other girls did not like this and started to harass me. One girl walked by me in the hall and out of the blue said the guy I was dating was going to break up with me. I said nothing to her but gave her the coldest hardest stare. She turned away quickly. I thought to myself if looks could kill. Ha Ha. It turned out that I did not date this guy very long. He was a little younger than me anyway and still too much a young kid at heart. It hurt a little bit when we broke up but I quickly got over it because it was just more of a puppy love deal. I do however remember he was somewhat more romantic than some grown men. He would take me places, buy me flowers and shower me with little gifts all the time. Even after we had split he gave me a pewter necklace with xxs and oos engraved on it. I believe I even still have this necklace to this day. I would suppose this would not be too bad of a high school remembrance.
