Cat Crashes Clock
Our little black cat, Abraham loves to play and also get into mischief. One morning he got himself into trouble with the grandfather clock that stood in the dining room. My other half had left for work but I was still asleep. I awoke an hour later only to find my cherry wood grandfather clock lying face down on the kitchen floor. The cat was standing in the living room looking toward the clock then looked at me as if he knew he was in big trouble. I was not too happy about this let alone still being half asleep and feeling like a grizzly bear still trying to wake up. I lifted the clock and noticed the wood on the crown of the clock was smashed which totally ruined the whole look of the clock. The clock still chimed even though the batteries were low but did somewhat sound a little more distorted. The clock mechanism was more than likely damaged from the fall. The pendulum and decorative accents had come loose but the glass doors were not broke and still remained intact. One of the doors on the top of the clock would no longer close properly. The bottom of the clock suffered some damage. It didn't look good at all. I then knew the clock was ready for the dumpster. Strangely enough I did not hear the clock crash to the floor which was a good thing because I would have been even a madder bear if the noise would have woken me out of a dead sleep. I then realized it was not totally the cat's fault that the grandfather clock had toppled to the floor. It was actually a cheaply made grandfather clock that came from Walmart. The clock did not have good balance from the beginning and I knew that sooner or later that it would end up taking a hard fall because of its poor construction and poor balance. We had the clock for about eight or nine years and got it on sale for a hundred dollars. So I'm grateful there that it wasn't some real expensive clock or treasured antique that suffered the misfortune of going down. I figured the cat had been playing with something on the floor and more than likely it went underneath the clock and he tried to swat it out with his paw. This is probably where the clock had lost its balance and came crashing to the floor. Best of all Abe was not hurt by the incident but there will be no more cheap grandfather clocks in the house. The next one will be a mantel clock.
