The Car That Died
It was the year 2003 when our city made the international news for a major fire. There was extensive damage to a provincial park and thick smoke and ash hovered over the whole valley and city. This made breathing a little difficult and my husband and I were somewhat scared. We decided to stay with relatives further up north for a little while just to get away from fire scene. We quickly packed some necessities and soon headed on our way.
It was about an hour and a half after driving that it began to get dark. We were about an hour away from the next major city. I had some hesitations about going any further and thought about turning the car around and heading back home. However, I continued on and we came to the next city and had a bite to eat at a fast food restaurant. My husband and I left the restaurant and headed back toward the car. I put the key in the ignition and it took several turns to get the car started. It began to sputter and choke, I became somewhat worried then but finally the car started but continued to choke and sputter somewhat as I was driving down a major freeway. The choking finally seemed to have stopped. We decided to stop on the side of the road near a weight scale because I thought I may have gone too far and missed our turn.
We sat on the side of the road for a few moments discussing our route. Suddenly we heard a loud fog like horn. I looked behind and saw that a logging truck was coming up behind us seemingly without any intention to stop. I tried to start the car but it would not start. I panicked and kept trying to start the car. Again it would not start. Then seconds later the car just started enough for me to move out of the way so the truck could pass us. Then the car died again. When we were out of danger I restarted the car and we continued on our way.
We did make our destination up north but the car was still having some problems. We stayed up north for only a couple of nights then decided it was time to head back home. Again the car continued to give us some problems of jerking and sputtering. We finally arrived home and I parked the car in the driveway. It never started again after that.
